PYLG Christmas Party 2017

18/12/2017

On the evening of 14 December 2017, our members came together to celebrate the festive season and enjoy a three-course meal at Middleton’s Steakhouse and Grill complimented with good company, festive cheer and a few bad Christmas cracker jokes!

The event had a warm ambience and ended the year on a high note with over 30 members attending including some new faces.

The prize for the best Christmas jumper, a Hotel Chocolat Christmas Selection H-Box was awarded to Alison Plumb of MCP Solicitors with her accompanying elf glasses and ‘showstopper’ Christmas tree handbag. Very well deserved!

Finally, thank you to Shamsher Singh (Greenwoods Solicitors) and Roxanne Dean (Taylor Rose TTKW) for organising another great event.

Comedy Night - 6 October 2017

12/10/2017

On 6 October 2017, 16 members of PYLG took a trip to the Key Theatre to watch some comedy!

David Morgan was the warm up act, who told stories about growing up in Birmingham and the awkward truths about planning a gay marriage.

The main show was Sofie Hagen, a Danish stand up comedienne, who hosted her show 'Dead Baby Frog'. Contrary to what the title led us to think, the show was not related to animal cruelty but was based upon her family and her experiences growing up with her not-so pleasant Grandfather.

Centred on her relationship with her 'Dad-dad' (Grandfather in Danish), the title was a clever analogy on the theory that a frog placed in boiling water will immediately jump out, but if the temperature is increased gradually, the frog will stay put until it boils alive.

The unusual routine lead to some mixed feeling as to whether the warm up act, with more traditional jokes, was better! Despite the dark story however, Sofie's show provided plenty of laughs and giggles as she engaged with the audience. Everyone had a fantastic time and it was a great way to relax on a Friday evening.

Thank you to Jake Parker-Bishop (Sloan Plumb Wood) for organising another successful event!

Gin Tasting

19/6/2017

Picture

The PYLG were delighted to host its first annual gin tasting event in the wonderfully located No.1 Kitchen of Stamford. Attendees were treated to a discussion with a professional regarding the origins of the drink and were able to sample a diverse range, from the traditional London Dry Gin to the oriental Ophir.

It was a great, relaxed setting for networking to take place and a good opportunity for members based further outside of Peterborough to attend. A variety of faces, both new and old, represented 6 different firms and provided fantastic company for all involved. Conversation ranged from a discussion on how to best dispose of a kitchen island to an invented rating system for types of fun!

The event, hosted in honour of World Gin Day, certainly brought with it converted fans and surprised many on the differences made by adding tonic water, lemon and even seeds.

Special thanks to the Peterborough and District Law Society for sponsoring the event and to all the attendees for coming out on a sunny Friday evening to enjoy the buffet, company and most of all beverages!
